Breathwork

Jen first experienced the power and transformation of breathwork on the island of Maui in Hawaii.
Unexpectedly and gratefully, Jen experienced a massive shift and transformation which took her from a stage in her life of grieving for the last 10 years to feeling free, content and joyful again.
This gave Jen the knowledge that she wanted to share this powerful transforming work with others and help others change their life.

What is Breathwork

Breathwork is a general term used to describe controlled breathing and breathing exercises that improve physical, mental, emotional and spiritual health.
By consciously deep breathing you can activate your parasympathetic nervous system and in turn this will slow your heart rate down and lower your blood pressure creating a real sense of calm.

When your body is in “flight or flight” mode or in stress mode, it responses to stress by increasing the heart rate, it releases a surge of hormones like cortisol and adrenaline. This then causes your breathing to speed up, it increases your blood pressure and puts you in a position of feeling anxious or tense. By introducing deep breathing techniques we can safely and quickly put the body back into calm state.

Breathwork can also help the mind as well as the body, it can help the with the mental chatter we sometimes have and also helps access buried emotions, trauma and grief. We use Breathwork for mental health issues and and a way to calm the mind as well as for anxiety and stress.

History of Breathwork

    • Breathwork and conscious breathing practices can be found around the world and back in ancient times and cultures. Many cultures like, Buddhism, Shamanism and Taoism have used the breathe to heal and deepen their meditation practices for many many years.
    • Back in the 1960s and 1970s Breathwork came back to light in the western world due to people like Leonard Orr, DR Stan Grof and more recently Wim Hoff.
    • STYLES OF BREATHWORK:-
These days we have many styles of breathwork and there is no right or wrong method. It’s a good idea to liken it too Yoga, we have many styles of Yoga, no right or wrong yoga just which ever resonates with you or what you’re trying to achieve.
    • PRANAYAMA BREATHWORK:-
If you have practised Yoga you will be familiar with Pranayama Breathing. Its a controlled breath that is generally in through the nose and out though the mouth. It controls the breathe so you can move past emotional and energetic blocks that hinder the flow of your life force your lifer energy.
    • HOLOTROPIC BREATHWORK:-
Holotropic breathwork is a practice often accompanied by intense music and led by an instructor guiding a group of participants. It involves inhaling and exhaling for the same amount of time at different speeds to induce an altered state of consciousness.
Holotropic therapy has its roots in LSD therapy but is the drug-free alternative, where the main intent is to produce mind-altering experiences. People often experience visions, uncontrollable spurts of emotions, and sometimes muscle cramps.
    • REBIRTHING:-
Rebirthing breathwork is grounded in the idea that you carry residual stress from your traumatic experience of birth. Through this type of breathwork, it is believed you can allow yourself to release any emotional baggage and trauma that occurred during your birth.
The practice involves using circular breathing and often lying mostly underwater to create a state of relaxation that allows for pent-up stress, which has been stored in the body since birth, to be released. Through conscious breathing, instead of simply breathing air in and out, you can transform it to instead move energy.
    • WIM HOFF METHOD:-
Wim Hiff is probably the most popular breathwork treacher high now, due to some of his awesome achievements like climbing Mount Everest in shorts brrrrrrr!
This method is different to above as its done in sets and has breathe holds.
    • SOMA BREATHWORK:-
Soma Breath is a complete holistic system of Pranayama techniques, which can be arranged into different sequences depending on the type of workshop you are attending as well as tailored to your specific needs. There is no one size fits all, and we take into account the fact that everyone is different and requires different breathing techniques depending on their needs.
